Your Degree does not Define you

10 Steps To Complete During Finals Week

It's that time of the year again. The time you're struggling to celebrate Christmas but also get your life in order for the upcoming week ahead. FINALS have come. It's the time where we all up our vitamin C dosage and pray to God we don't get sick. For me, my body hears the word: Finals and decides "yup, it's time to get sick!" So this year I kicked it in the butt. However, it's been hard to maintain everything in such a small amount of time. We're almost done but it would be nice to come out with a bang. So here are some helpful tips on how to handle finals week.

1. Get a good night's sleep

We think that cramming all night will do the trick but really you're no good if you can't stay awake during the test. Be sure to go to bed at a decent hour and maybe wake up a little earlier instead of going to bed late.

2. Be good to your body

Working out is quite a stress reliever, remember if you feel too overwhelmed take a break and do something that isn't studying. Whether it's watching 30 minutes of netflix or going to the gym to work off some stress, be sure to do something that gives you a small break!

3. Eat somewhat well

This goes along with number 2, it's hard to stop and think about dinner (for some of us) but you need to remember to feel your body with something besides processed sugar. * helpful hint * sucking on a peppermint during a test helps jog your memory and gives you fresh breath! You're Welcome!

4. Your Degree does not Define you

This is an important one. Remember that you are who God made you to be, not what your degree makes you. Yes, it is good to make good grades, heck maybe your life is depending on this A. But remember that this degree is not who you become, it's only an accomplishment you've made and part of what you have achieved. Be proud, but know the difference.

5. BREATHE

Seriously... do it with me right now. Sit back in your chair. Take a deep breath...... exhale......repeat.

ok good you're done.

6. DO NOT GO OUT THIS WEEK

come on guys.... you wonder why you can't wake up the night morning or remember any of your terms? This negates numbers 1-3! Save the partying till after the finals!!

7. Reward Yo'self

Remember that your mind and body are working together to remember things from your first day of class, as well as you are trying your hardest not to be sick. So when something good happens remember to reward yourself, whether it's with queso or a small treat from the bakery or even Tj Maxx (my personal favorites) Don't forget to treat yourself in the small things to make the week go on faster!

8. Don't give up

As I said earlier, my body hears "finals" and says "ok it's our queue to get sick!" So naturally I got myself a steroid shot and went about my way. Don't over do it, but also know when not to give up. Don't let your body wearing down keep your mind from being sharp!

9. Remember above all else, Jesus is the reason for the season...even the finals season..

Yup! He's the reason for every season so remember to give him praise when you wake up and during the day when he allows you to remember those exam questions you've never seen before in your life!

10. Don't sell yourself short

An A is awesome, but a B is great too! Sometimes we don't get the grades we anticipated and that's ok! Remember to celebrate the small wins and continue throughout your season! Finals are just another bump on this crazy road we call life!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
