October, Halloween or specifically Fall, in general, will always be my favorite time of year. Growing up, my favorite time of year would have been Spring/Summer, because that was when softball started back. However, the older I get the more in love with this time of year I fall, pun intended. I love everything about it, the pumpkins, fall festivals, football, pumpkin spice lattes, the chill in the air, literally everything. The excitement grows whenever I think about taking my daughter trick or treating, or simply dressing her up. I love decorating for fall, the colors, the pumpkins, leaves, and who can forget flowers. But, my absolute favorite is the movies that come on. Here is a list of my favorite fall/Halloween movies:
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
Okay, so this one is biased. “This is Halloween, This is Halloween!” The movie mentioned is my favorite movie of all time, from my favorite director, Tim Burton. Jack Skellington holds a special place in my heart and has for many years. I could quote this movie while watching it and sing every song for you, although it may not be the best. I am not a fan of the horror/ thriller films, but this animated feature that incorporates two of my favorite holidays will always have my vote
2, Hocus Pocus
“Oh a glorious morning, makes me sick!” Okay, so that may not be direct, but who could shame this classic. While one could purchase this DVD for a mere $4 on amazon, a viewer could experience the Sanderson Sisters in all their glory. I mean who can deny the thought of a virgin lighting a candle bringing witches back from the dead screams Halloween. Also, it's set in Salem, Massachusetts; how is this not speaking to the Halloween juices that run through your veins? This is a must see, although who hasn’t seen it, right?
3. Halloweentown
This one is more the series, but obviously, is had to start somewhere. I mean, who doesn’t dream as a child to magically one day have magical powers. That is what happens to Marnie, okay she’s born with it, but she has to visit Halloweentown to be able to practice. Recently with my daughter, I have been able to share this gem with and hearing her say, “mommy, let's watch Halloween, brings warmth to my soul.” Also, there are three sequels to this film series. While I am sad that they changed the female lead in the last film to Sara Paxton, the entire series will always hold a place in my heart. But hey, all good things must come to an end, right? Also, I have recently read that one can visit St. Helens, Oregon, and experience Halloweentown with Marnie, Kimberly J. Brown herself. #Bucketlist
So that’s only three; however, I love Disney Halloween films, and will continue to watch them as long as they continue to show them. Other mentions are Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, The Addams Family, The Little Vampire, Corpse Bride, and so many more. So, with that I am going to go start a Halloween themed marathon.
“It’s just a bunch of hocus-pocus.” After all.
