8 Fall Fails

Expectations of the fall season vs. the realities.

8 Fall Fails

Fall is by far my favorite season, and I always await the official change in season from summer to fall. I'm always excited to break out the flannels, chunky sweaters, pumpkin spiced lattes, and freshly painted, fall-inspired nails. And though I’ve been loving the season, my expectations for the season have been a little different from the realities. Here are some of the few fall fails this season that I’m sure everyone can relate to:

1. Too Hot for a Sweater

I remember planning my outfit the day before the first official day of fall. I spent so much time choosing between a variation of cute flannels and some of my favorite sweaters, and I just knew that I would bust out my favorite pair of riding boots for this day. Sadly, like many of the fall days that followed, the first official day of fall was extremely hot and all that hard work and planning went out the window- it was back to wearing dresses without a cardigan.

2. Too Cold to be Fall Weather

Now the fall weather can be very tricky! One minute it's so hot it resembles a summer day, the next it feels like we are in the dead of winter. These extremely cold days are the worst because no amount of bundling up can protect me from the frigid weather. Plus I would rather not have too many cold days while it's still fall because we have an entire season dedicated to suffering in the freezing cold.

3. The Rain

When we talk about the fall, no one talks about the rain. The rainy windy days are probably the worst days during the fall season. These are the days that I kick myself for not buying a cute pair of rain boots.

4. No Points for a Pumpkin Spiced Latte

The moment that I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived: the return of the pumpkin spiced latte! It is so convenient to have a café on campus that serves Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte; however, all semester I’ve been buying coffee so I’ve run out of points. Well at least they were good while they lasted…

5. Not Always Having a Fresh Fall Manicure

I envisioned having my nails freshly painted each week with a new fall-inspired color, but then I remembered that I am a struggling college student. I don’t have the time to paint my nails each week, or the money to support this dream.

6. Not Having Enough Fall-esque Home Décor

Again, I am a struggling college student so realistically when the fall season comes, I realize that my dream of decorating my entire apartment for the season is just that… a dream. I did; however, buy a few candles and wall flowers!

7. DIY Halloween Costume Fail

These always look awesome on Pinterest and Tumblr but they are another story when you have to recreate them yourself. And even if the costume does come out looking decent, or even good, there is the other struggle of making sure it stays that way throughout your night of partying.

8. Pumpkin Carving

This is something that I always want to do but have given up on after my first stab at it (get it: stab at it ha ha). Pumpkin carving is such a messy craft and it also never turns out the way you wanted it to. So now I just stick to buying a pumpkin and leaving it on display completely intact.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
