Everything I've Ever Wanted To Say To My Big

I never knew you would play such a big role in helping me find myself.

Everything I've Ever Wanted To Say To My Big
Megan Dunn

When I first met my Big on Bid Day, I immediately knew I was going to be her little. Even though she’s admitted to me now that she thought I was pretty weird at first, we’ve become much closer than I ever thought we would. Of course when Big-Little reveal came around, I wasn’t even surprised when she revealed herself to me. As corny as this may sound, I knew our friendship was meant to be from the very beginning.

I never knew that having someone like my Big in my life would have as much as an impact as it has. She has provided me with some quality advice (even when I didn’t ask for it) and doesn’t mind how many puns I make in a single day. She’s my number one fan and one of my biggest supporters. If it weren’t for her, I don’t think I would be the same person I am today.

Just by observing her personality, she has taught me to never (and I mean never) take s**t from anyone. She’s taught me to stand up for myself, and is always right there standing beside me to pick me up when I fall. She listens to me complain about school, being broke half the time, and everything in between.

It’s just now starting to occur to me that she’s leaving in just a few months, which I know is going to be extremely hard for the both of us. I don’t really know who I’m going to share a plate of Kickin Chicken Bobby Fries with next year, but I do know that no matter where we end up in life, I’m always going to have her as one of my closest friends.

One of the biggest reasons why I’m writing this article right now is because I never thought I would have someone in my life who understands me on the same level that she does. We’ve gone through quite a few of the same things in our lives, and I’m glad to have someone who understands where I’m coming from. She's been one of the first people I’ve come to during some of my darkest times, and that’s something I will forever be grateful for (and in case anyone is wondering, yes, I am starting to tear up as I am writing this article). You’ve inspired me to work harder in everything I do, because I’ve seen you work even harder. You’ve inspired me to look out for others more simply by how you’ve looked over me. You’ve played such an important role in who I’ve become in college, and who I will be for the rest of my life. I don’t even know where to begin for thanking you for that.

I know she's going to do incredible things with her life. She's going to be a fantastic lawyer, because she's already an amazing human being. Thank you for being the phenomenal person you are, and thank you for being the best Big I never thought I would have.

Love you always.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
