Every once in a while, Sam Smith sneaks up on us and releases an outstanding album. With the perfect mixture of sad and bittersweet, he catches the attention of large crowds. Even those who are not the “slow music” type, find themselves nodding along to his songs.

However, Sam’s music is so much more than just a good beat. The lyrics he sings are relatable, chilling, and pure truth.

As a matter of fact, Sam recently came out with his newest album, The Thrill Of It All. After downloading and instantly listening to it, my goosebumps quickly arose. The meaning of his new piece is greatly amazing, and I am here to give it the appreciation it deserves.

1. Say It First

Of the 14 songs in Sam’s new album, "Say It First" is one of the many greats that is easy to relate to. In our lifetime, we face multiple relationship struggles that are difficult to put into words. Saying “I love you” for the first time is especially hard.

As millennials, we can agree that meanings get confusing and lost in the land of texting. Therefore, it is hard to justify how someone truly feels. Because of this, saying “I Love You” can be scary without knowing if the other person’s perception is the same. In the end, it’s so much easier letting them say it first.

After all, then you can be confident that their feelings are mutual.

2. Scars

This song is sincerely one of my favorites. Written for his parents, Sam thanks them for all that they have done, with an emphasis on the scars they have healed. Listening to this song, it helps me to understand how much my parents have done for me as well. Clearing up our scars is one of our guardians' greatest talents.

Day in and day out, they put our lives before theirs. They deserve so many thank you’s that we cannot fully give them. Sam puts these meaningful acts into great words and allows us to realize the impact our parents make in our lives.

Don’t forget to give your mama some love today!

3. Too Good At Goodbyes

Being played on the radio, this song is probably the most popular. As a matter of fact, I am sure a majority of you reading this article have probably already listened to it. The lyrics are heartbreakingly true. In the average person’s life, there are many occasions when you get left in the dirt by someone you care about.

Sadly, this happens all too often. After a while, we get used to saying goodbye to these important people and it becomes routine. This song can help us realize that we are not the only people feeling this way and that maybe we are becoming stronger because of it.

Life isn't easy, and people suck. Moral of the story, guard your heart and appreciate the people that are consistent in your life.

4. HIM

If there was a song that I could gift an award to, it would be this one. Sam sings about coming out of the closet and the ridicule that comes with it. As citizens, we know that certain religious beliefs and the LGBTQ community have experienced many years of conflict.

However, in his song, Sam explains that these individuals were born this way, and it is something that they have a right to be. No matter the "sins" they supposedly are committing, these individuals will be who they are without regret.

What a beautiful message, expressed in an amazing way, that many can relate to.

5. Pray

Saving the best for last, this song is one that is the most understandable to me. Growing up, my grandparents took me to church with them a few times out of the year. When I got older, my life became busier and my parents never pressured a religious aspect as part of my life. Because of this, it left me wondering if I was being a "bad Christian."

However, when listening to this song, I realized I wasn’t alone. Many people are facing the conflict within themselves of being a “bad disciple.” As the years pass, religion becomes fewer and fewer in the daily life, and many people begin feeling the same way.

But you're not alone, and you will find your way. Just pray.

Although I have only touched on five of the songs in The Thrill of It All, the rest of the album is just as incredible. The next time you are looking for some good tunes to listen to while you chill on the couch, I would highly recommend Sam Smith's newest piece.

Epic Creation Myths: Norse Origins Unveiled

What happened in the beginning, and how the heavens were set in motion.

The Norse Creation Myth

Now, I have the everlasting joy of explaining the Norse creation myth. To be honest, it can be a bit kooky, so talking about it is always fun. The entire cosmos is included in this creation myth, not just the earth but the sun and the moon as well. This will be a short retelling, a summary of the creation myth, somewhat like I did with Hermod's ride to Hel.
