Between night classes, group projects, exams and club meetings sometimes you have to spend more time on campus than you’d like. Unfortunately, in these situations, most of us just run to the vending machine for a snack between meetings or before class. Spending $2.00 on a small portion of chips might seem fine in the moment but in hindsight, it’s a huge waste of money. Here are some snacks you can carry with you so you’ll never have to waste your money at the vending machine again.

1. Protein/granola bars

I feel like this one is a given, but it never hurts to mention protein/granola bars. These are perfect just to keep as an emergency snack because we all know nobody really likes granola or protein bars. You never know when you’re going to forget your wallet or if you’ll have to stay late because of an unexpected project, so it’s always nice to have around.

2. Trail Mix

Vending machine trail mix is basically peanuts with like three raisins and six M&Ms. If you bring your own trail mix you’ll save a $1.50 and have more of a variety. Kudos to you if you’re willing to make your own.

3. Nuts

Tying into trail mix, bringing pistachios, almonds or cashews are always a great idea for long days on campus. Nuts have a lot of protein to keep you full and are perfect to snack on during class.

4. Chex mix

As an on-the-go snack, Chex Mix is seriously underrated. There are so many varieties of Chex Mix so you’ll never run out of options. Plus, like trail mix, you can make your own.

5. Fruit

Paying $1.00 for an apple is pretty ridiculous. Bringing your own fruit is both cheaper and convenient. Grapes, apples, tangerines, bananas, peaches and dried fruit are all great options, especially if you are trying to keep your backpack light.

6. Popcorn

Popcorn or popcorn chips are great things to keep you full between classes. The portion packs that you get in the vending machine are nothing compared to buying the giant bag and portioning it out yourself. If you have access to a microwave, you can always pop it fresh but keep in mind that people will probably hate you.

7. Pop Tarts

Pop Tarts are for when you are hungry but aren’t really in the mood to eat real food. Buying a large pack from the grocery store makes more sense than paying $1.75 for just two Pop Tarts. Like granola bars, these are great to keep on hand for emergencies.

8. Non-Potato Chips

I feel like most people choose potato chips when they go to the vending machine. If you want to stay full for a long period of time, chips, in general, are probably not the best options. If you really like your chips though, SunChips or Veggie Straws are pretty good alternatives.

9. Yogurt

Yogurt is a snack that you’ll have to eat in the morning, but with its protein, it’s a good snack to bring if you’re running late and don’t have time to eat breakfast.

10. Crackers

Crackers are so versatile, making them a perfect campus snack. If you bring small on the go packs of peanut butter you can add some protein. Animal crackers are also pretty good and are great if you just need something to hold you over until lunch or dinner time.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
