Summer: the season we look forward to all year. It's the time for beach days, tan lines, and adventures. However, those carefree summer days are behind me since I now have to build my resume for graduate schools and not just lay around all summer long like I did in high school. This summer has not been my favorite, but I'm trying to make the best of it. My weeks are really busy, but I still have weekends to try to get in some summer fun. Here are the ways that I enjoy my summer even though I have to work all week long.
1. Plan ahead
The first thing you need is to make plans! How do you expect to have fun if you don't plan fun things to do? Text your friends ahead of time and see if they are free the upcoming weekend. I actually have the rest of my summer planned with things to do every weekend, so I am able to still have fun and see my friends before I go back to school. Don't procrastinate and make a plan already!
2. Do fun things after the workday
After work, I am dead tired. I just want to lay on the couch and fall asleep (and many times I do that.) However, if I want to have a decent summer and not just watch Dr. Phil on the couch, I need to stand up and do something! Whether that's reading, spending time with friends, or even walking your dog, don't just waste the summer away by sitting on the couch. You'll regret it!
3. Do something you love
I LOVE hiking with my friends! Although I don't have a lot of time this summer, I try to fit in activities that I love to do. Don't waste your time doing things that you don't want to do even though your friends may be doing it or it's the "cool" thing to do! Do what YOU love.
4. Hang out with friends that you barely get to see during the school year
I miss my friends during the school year and it seems impossible to coordinate our schedules when schools have different holidays and vacation time. So basically, I wait all year to see my friends from home. While I'm home and working, it may be hard to have the energy to go out with friends. However, once I'm with my friends I forget about all of the stress and I enjoy every minute I have with them. I even feel like I have more energy after being with them, laughing and talking. Go ahead and call up your friends, tell them you miss them and have a girls night!
5. Take some days off!
Yes, you heard me! Take a day off! After working your a** off all summer, you deserve to take some time to yourself. Although you may not get paid for taking days off (and I know that we're all in debt with student loans), you're only young once. Take off, drive to the beach, and relax. It's not easy being a student nowadays with all the stress from difficult classes, a job on top of school, social issues, and debt. Taking a day off will help your reenergize to get back on the horse and keep on being the amazing, hardworking person you are.
