Picture this: you are finishing your third year of college. With a college degree in your near future and societal pressure to find the perfect job, spouse and house, you continue to ask the same worry-filled questions over and over again. If you’re anything like me, the constant thoughts of “Where am I headed?” consume your mind.
By nature, we as humans are fearful. Fearful of the future, fearful of the stranger sitting next to us on the bus, fearful of being unprepared, fearful of snakes and fearful of failure.
Whatever you’re fearful of, the solution is simple: trust.
You will graduate, you will find a job, you will learn from your mistakes and failures -- and most importantly, trust that everything will be OK.
I’m going to be really honest with you for a second. Some days, every ounce of me wants to throw in the towel and say, “I can’t.” But I’m here to tell you, from my own experience, you can.
Use the thoughts of discouragement as fuel to overcome the obstacles.
It’s like a game. Every time you tell yourself you can’t, or you won’t, remember the setbacks you have overcome in the past. The more you think about how far you’ve come in this crazy game we call life, the more you will succeed, because that alone is amazing. Be proud of yourself, because you and I both know that you’re pretty cool.
There are so many people in this world who have been positively impacted by you.Yes, you! That’s success in and of itself.
Even when you feel like you’re failing or don’t have it “all figured out,” trust me -- you already have so much to be proud of. Look how far you’ve come. There’s a whole life ahead of you, so keep doin’ what you’re doin’.
The biggest advice I have would have to be: don’t compare your journey to some else’s. Just because every other post on social media you see is an engagement photo or an acceptance letter, that does not, by any means, mean that you have to go out and do the same.
You will get the job (even if it’s not the one you had originally planned on), you will get the diploma and, most of all, you will live the life that God intended for you to live.
What I’ve learned in my times of trials and tribulations is that it’s OK to be fearful sometimes. When we are fearful, it is that much easier to find peace and hope in the Lord. Use the fear as a push forward instead of a pull backwards. He is in this race of life with you. It’s OK to walk; it’s OK to run. Just as long as Jesus is right there along side you, it will all fall into place.
This life is made for celebration. Celebrate both the good and bad. Even in the hard-times, just know that a new day is ahead and that you can face the day far more wiser and stronger than ever before.
So, let's celebrate!
