As we continue with no rain, dry conditions, and lower humidity, this has caused many brush fires in the VA area. Right now there is one in Nelson County. The brush fire in Nelson County is north of Livingston. Emergency Service Coordinator Jamie Miller says, “Currently the fire has burned about 450 acres.” The National Weather doesn’t know when we will get significant rain in the area. “We are in a moderate drought,” says Jason Elliott. “There is a chance of rain during this week but won’t amount to anything. Only a quarter of an inch is expected. We just have to wait and see.”
I also asked him about the rivers in the spring. He said, "If we don’t see any snow or rain in the winter, rivers will be low. Unfortunately, it will be a while until we see rain.” This is disappointing.
The current forecast for the rest of the week is a 70% chance of rain on Wednesday, then 30% chance of rain on Thanksgiving Day.
There have been many brush fires in the area and officials ask that civilians not burn anything due to the drought. You can stay tuned to the situation here: http://www.facebook.com/ScottsvilleAreaBreakingWeather
