Every year the fair hosts events such as tractor pulls and live concerts, but what about the last day of fair? Ever wonder why people are screaming from the grandstand? Maybe there was a mysterious dim light in the distance. What about all that smashing and crashing? If other fairs are just like the Wayne County Fair, then they end the fair with a tradition: DEMOLITION DERBY! What? Never heard of it? The demolition derby can consist of many things (some places do buses, tractors, and monster trucks, but we do old beat up renovated cars). This year, the demolition derby consisted of--actually, why don't we start from the beginning?
In round one of the demolition derby, green car number 07 was covered in smoke, creating suspense on whether or not it would be the first car to be swallowed in flames. In the end of the boring round, black and white car number 97 came out on top claiming first place.
In round two of the derby blue car number 615 was going strong until they were attacked from the side and rammed over a log, eliminating them from the round. Blue car 925 was in their prime until a spark ignited and the front of the car caught on fire. The round was paused as the firemen extinguished the flame and allowed the driver to walk out of the rink. In the end, it appeared that black car number 914 claimed victory in round two.
Now round three is where things heat up. Car number 622, better known as Spider Man due to the design on the car, enters the rink only to get slammed by the pink and black car number 755 while car number 005, better known as the British Flag, attacks from behind. The attacked stirred the crowd as the screaming grew louder as the match became more intense. Black and green car number 2442 gets trapped by 755, but makes a daring escape as 755 stalls on the track. 2442 goes back for revenge, causing a final blow to 755 as a wheels comes flying towards the stands. Spider Man makes a sneak attack against 2442, but 2442 escapes just in time as Spider Man loses a while and crashes into another car, getting hit once again by 2442 and getting eliminated from the match. It is obvious that round three goes to car number 2442.
There is a pause between rounds three and four so they can water the track and make it harder for the next set of cars to battle.
Round four kicks off as car number 05 (better known as the American flag), car number 4 (better known as Dino 4), car number 66 (better known as Cherry Picker) and car number 777 (better known as the NASA sports car) take the lead. In the heat of the battle, the black and green car number 12 sparks to life as firefighters rush to extinguish the flames. Not too far behind, black car number 50 smoke screens the track as other cars begin to follow. Soon the pink, black, and white car number 80 bursts into flames and firefighters fight yet another flame in the round. The fourth round goes to the smiley face blue car number 18.
The fifth round was the smallest of them all, consisting of only four cars. After not even a minute the pink and black car number 24 stalls out and is eliminated. The green and black car number 331 rams into the black with blue car number 7, forcing them into a tail spin. Near the end the final two cars were 331 and 7 as they go head to head. The battle grows as number 7 sinks into the mud and experiences wheel difficulties. 331 rams into 7 with full speed making wheels fly and demolishing the car. 331 wins and shows their victory by doing donuts on the track.
That derby was a strong one in deed. Wonder who will come on top next year...will it be you?
