1. Mulan
I mean she saves China, what else do you need to know? If you need more convincing though, you should rewatch the movie, because not only is she a total bad ass, but she has moments of real insecurity and feeling the pressures of her family and society. It is how she overcomes the expectations of other people by sheer determination and staying true to her heart that she is able to emerge victoriously, and for anyone who has ever felt not good enough it may be the push you need to believe in yourself and try anyway.
2. Rapunzel
Ok, Rapunzel is the biggest cutie ever. She's clumsy and silly, but she is also courageous and has an incredible ability to hold onto hope despite the circumstances. She's also a great example someone who has suffered abuse at the hands of a parent but stands up for themselves to escape their toxic control, while still maintaining her belief that there are still good people in the world. Also, her braid game is so strong.
3. Moana
The kind of similar storyline to Mulan's, her family has a lot of expectations but her heart is calling her in a different direction. Moana manages to find a way to combine what she feels called to do while still stepping into her role in the community and is able to find balance and acceptance. Moana embodies perseverance, determination, resilience, and courage, and shows a heart that is both gentle and fierce and full of love for her people.
4. Pocahontas
She can paint with all the colors of the wind, 'nough said.
5. Kida
Ok I know she isn't in the official Disney princess lineup, but not including Kida would be a crime. This girl is a master linguist, a skilled fighter, she is stubborn and bold, and will do just about anything to protect her people. Even after the events of her tragic past, Kida faces the present and future with joy and determination, she possesses wisdom beyond her years and is just a super funny, lovable character! If you haven't watched Atlantis and have missed out on the awesomness that is Princess Kidagakash Nedakh, you haven't lived, so go watch it ASAP, it is on Netflix!
