Dear Best Friend, This One's For You
The Life of Halle

Dear Best Friend,

I pinky promise to always love you.

You've been there for me through the heartbreaks, the mistakes and the adventures. We walked through the hallways of high school like we owned it. I felt like I could take down anything someone threw at me because I was walking next to you. Something happens when you meet your best friend. You laugh a little harder and see things in a new light. I saw things in a way I hadn't seen them before because I was always with you. People expected us to always be with each other and we always were.

There were times we both were annoyed with the other one, but we always ended up calling each other back because something happened and we needed to tell the other person. Endless conversations full of "OMGs" and "LOLs" filled our phones. Tear stains and makeup stains would end up on our clothes after someone had a fight with their mom. We understand each other more than anyone else. I can give you a look and you know immediately what I'm thinking. I don't know where I would be without you.

Also, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the times I didn't answer the phone when you called or when I wasn't there to wipe away the tears. I'm sorry for the times I let a boy come between us. I wish I could go back and change all of that so we could have that time back to go on more lunch dates. You were always the one I could count on to eat lunch with. Multiple lunch date photos, jam sessions and screenshots take up my phone storage because I want to cherish all the memories I have with you.

It's hard not being with you everyday, but I know that on my wedding day you will be the one standing beside me making sure I don't fall. I look forward to seeing you grow into an adult. That sounds so weird to say that my best friend is close to being an adult. But I couldn't be prouder of the person you are turning into. You make everyone laugh and smile. It's pretty cool getting to say that you're my bestfriend.

I promise to never let you forget how amazing and beautiful you truly are. I promise to always remind you that you're loved. You are going to do amazing things during your life and I hope to be there for all of it. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "Kid, You'll Move Mountains." I pinky promise to keep all of your secrets. I promise to never give up on you, to always be ready for a jam session or random lunch date. I probably never tell you this enough, but you mean more to me than anything. I pinky promise to never let you forget that.

Sincerely,

Your Best Friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
