On Wednesday, November 2nd the Chicago Cubs started a game against the Cleveland Indians that resulted in their first World Series win in 108 years. The curse has finally been lifted and people all over the country celebrate in their own way. One fan drove over 600 miles to honor the pact he had with his dad and to listen to the games together when the Cubs made it into the World Series. Another fan held onto a beer for 40 some years and vowed not to open it until the Cubs got into the World Series. However, people celebrated, Cubs fans are some of the most dedicated, especially one Virginia fan who vowed to change her middle name if the Cubs won the Series.
Kelsey and her dad share a passion for the Cubs and watch games together whenever she’s at home. When she was born she was given the middle name “Shea,” from Shea Stadium because her mom is a New York Mets fan. She called her family to ask about a bet she had made with some of her friends to change her middle name to “Wrigley,” and they compromised with her. If the Cubs won the World Series in 2016 she would change her middle name to “Shea Wrigley,” and they won, so she started planning!
After some research, it turns out it costs $30 to change your name in the state of Virginia so she left a jar in her house and started collecting. She got spare change from friends and accepted Venmo money so she could fund her name change, and she’s almost there! As soon as she get’s the money, she’s already had people volunteer to drive her to her hometown’s courthouse and file the forms with her.
This world series was truly a once in a lifetime experience so some people wanted to do once a lifetime things to celebrate! Kelsey deciding to change her middle name is an innocent and hilarious way to celebrate the end of the Cubs 108 year curse, and even better that her dad encouraged it!
