Crossfit Can Fix Stress & Anxiety

Everyone who claims to be stressed should allow themselves to get lost in the workout.

Many people have anxiety and stress. And most college students will say that that are stressed or identify with having anxiety. There are many things that can solve stress and anxiety like medications, oils, songs, creams, naps, screaming, ice cream, Jesus, cuddling, etc ect. BUT what if I told you a good stress relief and an escape from anxiety is Crossfit.

Yes, you read that correctly. Crossfit allows people to escape into their workout and focus on goals. Stress goes out the window, and anxiety leaves when you realize that everyone in the room is just an nervous and worried of failure...BUT everyone has their own personal goals and they're only focused on themselves. You are able to go into a zone and only focus on YOU.

Most coaches at a Crossfit facility tell new comers that they must leave their pride and 'coolness' at the door. Doing duck walks, monkey crawls, or screaming because you can't quit is just some of the things that happen and pride cannot be present.

According to http://www.crossfitdefined.com/what-is-crossfit/ Crossfit is a core strength and conditioning program and include the following:

  • Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance
  • Stamina
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Coordination
  • Agility
  • Balance
  • Accuracy

Crossfit is made for all ages and all body types. The misconception is that you must be 'fit' going not into the program. That is wrong, your coach will modify your skills and adjust to your limits.

As far as anxiety and stress goes, when you walk into the building you automatically forget your stresses of the week. You mentally get ready to push yourself and prove to yourself you can do anything your coach throws at you that day. Crossfit pushes skill yes, but it pushes you mentally overall.

So why Crossfit and not a gym membership? Allow me to set up a scenario to explain why Crossfit is the better option.

At a gym, people usually go workout by themselves. Some have a set routine, others have an idea of what muscles they want to work that day, but most people go to the gym to do cardio, do some abs, or lift some weights until they get tired. Then they get home.

At Crossfit, you never work out alone. People are always there encourage you, or even better doing it with you. When you arrive, a set schedule and agenda is given, and you work 110% til you finish. If you get tired, quitting is NEVER an option. You push and you fight and the people around you encourage you to keep going. Crossfit trains your mind and muscles to not stop until you're finished and you're not quitting till you're finished.

Focusing on the goal and completing your workout makes your mind set on that alone. Once your in the zone at Crossfit, your stress and anxiety are able to disappear.

Everyone should try Crossfit.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
