When you are young, you grow up dreaming of what your life will be someday.
My first dream was to be a princess, probably like most of you. I wanted to live in a huge castle and twirl around in beautiful dresses until the sun came up. Elementary school comes around and your teachers will ask you what you want to be when you are older. Most of us said something like a teacher or a firefighter. Likely, our aspirations at that time came from what we saw in movies or what our parents wanted us to be. As a younger child, this is a really exciting time. We start to see life in a new light and we begin to develop our dreams. Throughout the rest of your schooling, things get crazy. In middle school, the real pressure starts and in high school, your life has to be completely planned out. I remember my first real dream was to be a designer. I was infatuated with the idea of interior decorating and planning weddings. Everything about creating was exciting to me, but unfortunately, my dream wasn't as simple as that. What I wanted to do with my life didn't seem like a proper "career" according to guidance counselors and some other influencing adults in my life.
Welcome to the real world they said. The real world is where our dreams get destroyed. You decide what you want to do with your life, then there is someone that tells you that you can't. They'll tell you that you have to pick a more realistic route for your life. My argument is why? Why do I have to pick the safe track? Why can't I work hard and fight for my dreams instead of just hoping they will work out. Having dreams is one thing, but having the drive to achieve them is a completely different scenario.
Every person in this world deserves to have dreams. Dreams fuel our everyday life. Without something to look up to or hope for, life can seem dull. Now as much as I love aspirations, I believe that only people who are willing to dedicate themselves to making their dreams come true deserve to have that become reality. Dreams are put on a pedestal for a reason, they are only obtainable to those who show the initiative. Be that person. Have the want to achieve ever goal you set for yourself.
To all the advisors that told me my dreams weren't feasible and to the people that continue to downplay my major every single day; don't count me out. It takes two things to be successful; drive and passion. We all have it in us to do what we want to do in life, but unless you are filthy rich or you know the head honcho, you must dedicate yourself to being the best you can be. Take your failures as ways to become better and never ever give up on something that you love.
Turn your can'ts into cans and your dreams into plans.
Be a game changer and take ahold of your dreams.
