College As Told by the High School Musical Trilogy

When High School Musical describes college better than it describes high school.

Good ol' "High School Musical", the epitome of our elementary and middle school days. If the walls of your room weren't camouflaged with TigerBeat posters of Zac Efron and you didn't carry around your HSM lunchbox, were you even a cool kid? If you didn't grow up learning the dance moves to "We're All in This Together" and wishing you were a student at East High, you might need to reevaluate your childhood. Even though the "High School Musical" movies were created to explain modern day high school (which actually strays far from that point because no one breaks out into random song and dance during class), the world-wide phenomena, still resonates today in describing the crazy world of college. College can be a crazy, riveting, stressful, and unforgettable experience. Here's how the gold of Disney Channel original movie's describes the lives of college students.

When you forget to do an assignment that's worth half of your grade.

When your only friend in the class drops and you're left all by your lonesome.

At the beginning of the semester when you're feeling ambitious and think you can make Dean's List.

...but then you get the first test back and you’re like…

When you have no idea what your professor is lecturing about and it just sounds like gibberish.

When you’ve gone all semester without realizing one of your best friends is in the same lecture as you.

Having to walk up that one hill or set of stairs to class every day and realizing how insanely out of shape you are.

Having to give a presentation in front of the entire class when you're the worst public speaker.

Trying to focus on getting your homework done and studying when your roommates are getting ready to go out.

When you wake up to an email from your professor informing you that class is cancelled.

When someone taller than you is sitting in front of you and they're blocking your view of the board.

When your campus crush is in your class.

When the weekend finally comes and your sorority/club/sports team is having a formal.

When your school wins the big game against its biggest rival and everyone's hyped with school spirit.

When you decide to go out on a weekday and have class the next morning and think you'll make it to class but end up waking up three hours after class started.

When your professor announces that the final is cumulative.

When you think you bombed your final and you've been waiting for your professor to post your grade and they finally do.

When all your friends are going out but you have to stay in and do that 10-page research paper you've been putting off.

When spring break finally comes around and you and your friends can finally unwind and enjoy a week in paradise.

When you wake up late and have to rush to get ready for class.

When you're assigned a group project and one of the members of your group does nothing and your professor assigns peer evaluations and you get to expose your lazy group member.

When you're two weeks into the semester and you already only have $2 in your bank account.

When you get an A on the test you pulled an all-nighter for.

When you go home for the weekend and see all your hometown friends and it's like nothing has changed.

College can be both a struggle and adventure, but everyone is in the same boat so at the end of the day we're all in this together.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
