"Captain America: Civil War" might just be the best "Captain America" installment. This weekend’s opening came along with a ton of hype, and raving reviews. Combined with its international release a week earlier, "Civil War" has now earned $678.4 million globally, according to USA Today. The film is filled with epic fight battles and incoming Avengers. Although we already knew Steve Rogers or as we know him, Captain America; and Tony Stark who is Iron Man have had some rising tensions since "Avengers: Age of Ultron" when they disagreed on the creation of Ultron. Without too many spoilers, I will try to recap the best parts of the film.
The Premise
"Captain America: Civil War" is the battle between Captain America and Iron Man. After all the deaths and previous attacks, as we’ve seen in the previous films, the UN decides it’s time to keep a watch over the Avengers. Tony Stark agrees to start operating within the law, which we quickly learn it occurs after he is guilt tripped by a civilian who blames him for the death of an innocent boy and partly as an apology to Pepper Potts. Steve Rogers disagrees, and believes the Avengers have done much more for the greater good than anyone else could have done.
This quickly leads to a disagreement which then causes the super-heroes to be split in half. While some Avengers are trying to make peace and others keep a low profile, a terrorist attack at the UN implicates Captain America’s friend Bucky, the Winter Soldier. From here all hell breaks loose and the Civil War begins.
Appearances
We finally meet Spider-Man, or Tom Holland, and Black Panther, or Chadwick Boseman. They are also both on team Iron Man. It was also a great way to introduce them into the Avengers family. But that is not all, we also get a friendly visit from Ant-Man himself. Although Ant-Man stands with team Iron Man, we can’t help but love him. Both Ant-Man and Spider-Man bring some humor into the movie as expected. Ant-Man as we know to be a funny guy does a good job adding levity to tense situations and newbie Spider-Man also does the same during his fight scenes.
But We Have Questions
Where were Thor and The Hulk? Although I myself did not personally miss either, I am sure some fans did. I felt as if I was watching an Avengers film, rather than a Captain America one, perhaps it would have felt way too bloated with them involved as well.
Also, why did Black Panther’s costume give him a Cat-Woman look? Poor guy. Maybe it was the mask? Well, whatever it was, he deserved a much better suit.
Post-Credit Scenes
I mean, is it even a Marvel’s film without scenes in the credits?
Do not leave the theatre when the movie is over. The first clip is a scene that involves Black Panther with a fellow Avenger. The second is of Spider-Man which includes a text statement that reads “Spider-Man will return.”
