We were best friends before we were even born.
Our brothers were good friends which brought us together. We spent their soccer games walking around the fields trying to sell dandelions to all the parents trying to watch their own kids play. But this was just the beginning of our friendship.
We spent almost every day together if we could. Whether it was just you and I playing or others joined in, we couldn’t be separated. We made up so many different games while at your house. Mr. Ducky Man, The Alana game, and of course House. Whenever we played any game, you were always so willing to be the boy, the dad, the boyfriend, anything that would help the game we were playing. Most games that we played included your sister. Whenever she would have friends over, we were ready to play Americas Next Top Model. I wish we could watch those tapes that we made of us judging the outfits we picked out.
We did blind makeovers and movie nights. I forced you to watch scary movies even though you hated them. I think it was a good thing I did that because I believe you love scary movies now. We thought we were chefs. There were so many strange creations we came up with. There was bagels with cream cheese and fruit rolls, and our saltine peanut butter, and chocolate balls.
We did a week of horse riding lessons which I thought was a year and we had a plan for how our future lives would go. We would live together a buy millions of horses together because they were only a penny! (Little did we know, that they cost way more than just a penny). Even though that dream seemed to come to an end, we never let ourselves stray from the horses. We tried to find any way possible to get up on a horse. That’s when we met Batman at Highland Forest, but we didn’t stop there. We continued to go trail riding at Route 80 Stables. We hiked and took mini trips to the zoo together. Nothing was off limits.
School was never easy for us. We were never in the same class, but when we were, we were troublemakers. In Pre-school, we hid behind chairs from the teachers and somehow we managed to kill the class frog. In Pre-first we got in trouble the very first day for running around the cubbies. Those were the only years where we had class together. As we went through 7th and 8th grade and then high school, we would have a class together here and there. We slowly went our separate ways but nothing changed between us. We can go days, weeks, months, without any communication between us, but when we come together it’s as though we were never a part.
Here we are now, two college students who are miles apart, but that doesn’t impact our friendship. So now, I just want to say thank you, for making my childhood one to remember.
