Big news has emerged in the Urbana-Champaign community for Chicago-style food lovers. It has been confirmed that Champaign will be home to a Portillo’s Hot Dog Restaurant and now rumored to be a possible location for Giordano’s.
This means big revenue for both food giants and a better taste of home for a lot of university students.
The location nor opening date of Portillo’s has been confirmed, but it can be estimated that it will be in the works for 2017-2018, based on the other stores. CEO, Keith Kinsley is no stranger to the area as a 1976 graduate of the University of Illinois. He also held established roles in Noodles & Company and Chipotle, which are staples on the university’s Green Street dining spread.
While Portillo’s is a promise, Giordano’s is primarily speculation. Since the vacancy of Buca Di Beppo’s in January and the recent listing of Giordano’s as a client of Engineering concepts and Solutions located in the Market Place, there is probable cause to assume it might be a reality.
All parties contacted by other media personnel about Giordano’s have not replied.
Grab the Vienna Beef hot dogs and deep dish pizza at home while you have to, but things are looking tasty in the future for central Illinois!
