If you live on campus you could understand the pain of using meal plans. You miss home cooked style meals (the real meals from home!) and being around family. So, with Thanksgiving break around the corner you can't help but get excited to taste your mom's macaroni and cheese besides what's provided by a chef. However, there could be consequences when it comes to the long-term wait on eating a home-cooked meal. That consequence is over-indulgence. After over-indulgence comes the real bad part. Full and sleepy you can't help but to lay on your food and sleep in.
I have to agree, feeling full can feel good especially if you been waiting, mouth watering as you watch and smell the food being prepared but it could also be bad. Ever heard of what goes in must come out? Yeah, that's part of the bad part of what we call the aftermath of Thanksgiving. That aftermath is called a hangover. A Thanksgiving hangover. Rather it be food, alcohol, or even a family hangover where you spent too much time with your baby cousins and started talking in a baby voice, there are all kind of ways to feel like crap the next day. A Thanksgiving hangover described by Urban Dictionary is when you eat too much on Thanksgiving and feel terrible afterwards. This could apply, in my opinion, with having too many drinks and family interaction. So here are some things you can do to avoid feeling like crap after a full night of fun and food.
1. Exercise
You don't have to go to the gym right away but stretching is always preferred after woofing down a full plate of turkey. Let your food digest for a bit. Walk a few flight of stairs. It's not healthy to go plate after plate after plate. Play Wii with your cousins or other games like charade. Laughing is a good way to get rid of calories as well. Being active makes it easy to not get a stomach ache and feeling like a giant Violet Beauregarde blueberry.
2. Eat/drink moderately
Don't forget to drink water and eat your vegetables. Take your time if you have to. Avoid watching TV. Life's not all about meat, try some greens or fruits to add to establish a well-balanced meal. Don't forget that there are always leftovers so there is no need to eat until you can't eat a meal the next day.
3. Sleep and repeat
Get plenty of rest. lack of sleep for college students is relevant. If you plan on shopping on Black Friday make sure to get enough sleep. If you're planning on waking up early to get the best deal take a nap. An all-nighter could bring stress and lack of clarity.
4. Be alone
If being around your family for a long time makes you irritable, spend time alone. The awkward relationship question and future plan talk could be overwhelming for sure. It's been a while since you seen Aunt Judy and Uncle Ben and maybe you changed during the semester. Being around family for a long period of time could also tiring so at the end of the day don't forget to to take care of yourself and your own needs.
