Super Powers Aren't Always Needed For Super Heroes

To My 'Bestest Friend'
Emma Price/Jeurel Hunter

Dear Bestest Friend,

As a kid, all I ever wanted was a best friend. Sure, I had plenty of friends but everyone always wants to find that one best friend. The double trouble, partners in crime, always together, teacher's worst nightmare. Essentially the person that doesn't even knock because they are just part of the family. And now here you are. Our friendship has been through a lot. I'm not even joking when I say its a ride. But I am so unbelievably blessed to have been on it with you.

And to think it all began with some very bizarre handshake. I never would have imagined that you would be my very own bestest friend. From football games, to flood nights, to weird adventures, and all of the movies in between we always seem to have such a good time. And when things get rough and the ride a little bumpy (literally and emotionally), you're there beside me holding on for dear life because at the end of the day, you're stuck with me and a bumpy ride is way better than no ride at all.

Generally, 92.6% of the time you know exactly what to say. Whether it be boy troubles, friend troubles, regular troubles, or imaginary troubles that aren't really a problem but I think they are, you always know what to say. You challenge me to look at a different perspective on things, to think of others before myself. You remind me that I am stronger than I realize and that I am never alone. You remind me that I'm a little crazy but the best people truly are. And most of all you remind me to stay true to myself.

You might not have super powers but you truly are my hero. You're my biggest supporter and my favorite body guard. My number #1 on speed dial and my back ground on almost everything. Seriously the number of times you are on my family wall is quite impressive.

While sometimes I know we have our problems it puts me at ease to know that neither of us is going to go down without a fight. The only friend who has never bailed on me nor never given up. Words can't even begin to describe how thankful I am for you. For all of the memories that we share. For all of the inside jokes and friendships we have made because of each other. For the fill in dates. For the family you have helped me make. For always reminding me of right and wrong. For the wisdom you provide. For challenging me to shoot for the stars because no matter what happens you'll be there to help me up after the fall.

So thank you for never giving up on me and for catching everything I throw at you. Because without you I wouldn't be me.

Sincerely,

Little Fella

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
