Being A Grown-Up On Halloween: Yes, Please

In the days of old, Halloween was probably the coolest holiday. Christmas was still the best, getting presents trumped most things. But Halloween, the day where you get to wear a cool costume and go to your neighbors and they have to give you candy or they suck, that was an awesome holiday. But nowadays, as you get older, Halloween is becoming less and less important in most ways, but in other ways, probably the most fun social event of the year.

Being in college, there is no more going door to door trick or treating. And if you live in a dorm room, there is no one even coming into go trick or treating. I live in Bethlehem, PA, and here, Halloween doesn't actually even happen on the 31st. it's the Friday before Halloween. Even so, no kids come to our door, they avoid our street, probably because there are so many students. But as a person who was looking forward to handing out candies and being an old person. But they took that away from me!

But while the youthful days of Halloween have gone away, the new Adult Halloween has arrived. Halloween is no longer just "The 31st," it's Halloweekend! The weekend closest to Halloween is now considered fair game. People will have multiple costumes for the whole weekend. It's just an amazing weekend for partying, which is always cool. Besides the obvious reasons people like parties, just seeing all of your friends and peers in fun costumes is always cool. It's just the best kind of party where you can be funny, cool, scary, or sexy (Sorry, it didn't feel right not to include that adjective).

Along with being an adult on Halloween, there's also candy. College students obviously don't go door to door asking for candy anymore. But who needs it? You're an adult, just go to CVS and buy some candy with your own money. It's Halloween, you don't need to worry about buying too much candy. For all people know, you're getting ready for Trick or Treaters. It's perfect. No guilt, no worries, more candy.

It's really kind of incredible when you realize the situation. Having all the control during the Halloween season. Instead of trying to sneak horror movies late at night without you parents knowing, now we have Netflix! You can just binge horror movies all October! It's even more than just being older, we live in a new world where we can make Halloween awesome!

In the end, people can still be nostalgic for Halloween. But life is all about moving forward and having new experiences. So in my opinion, I would say we are better off Halloweening as adults than as kids.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
