Bad days. Everyone has them. Bad days arise from little things or big things, from bad moods or unluckiness. Some are worse than others, but collectively, they're still bad days. Let's put it out there: they suck. Often when we're triggered into a bad day, we become a dark, gray cloud that wishes unhappiness on others. We lash out at everyone we come across and are bitter about doing menial tasks. It's a subconscious reaction that we often don't even realize we are having. This will only make a bad day worse, not better.
It's important to take a moment and remember that everyone around you is going through something too. This may be their day to have a bad day too. Keep it in the back of your mind that on a bad day you need as much help and support as possible. Whether it's simply putting a few files away or having someone help you stuff envelopes so that you'll be able to eat lunch on time, help is important. When you put it in perspective like this, you can understand how ridiculous it is to take our bad day out on someone else.
Everyone's job is hard. No matter who you are, top or bottom of the food chain, everyone has difficult tasks and everyone has responsibilities. Never act as if what you do is more difficult or more important than people ranked higher or lower than you. Never act as if you are above what you do either. When you do this, it will only make your day worse and the tasks even more difficult.
When faced with these tough situations where it seems as if you are in a 4 x 4 box where you can't escape, take a breath. Remember that this day will pass because you've had days just like it before. The only way to improve a bad day is to think positively and attempt to move on from the struggles that this day has presented. Acknowledge that there are always steps you can take to improve the life you're living and on a smaller scale, the day you're having.
When a bad day hits you smack in the face, remember that your mood isn't only affecting you. Take a moment to recognize that it's affecting those around you and you must be careful with what you do and say, because you may end up being the reason that someone else has a bad day.
Taking your bad day out on others will do nothing good; it will only cause negativity and stress for you as well as those around you. Next time you have a bad day, remember not to think of yourself, but to think about how you're affecting those around you and what you can do to make your day improve, even if it's just by a little bit.
