Dear reader, are you familiar with awkward moments like I? On the young afternoon of Oct. 30, 2016, I may have experienced my most awkward buffet...
After I took care of my main meal, I returned to the buffet to gather some hot tea and I discovered that the cistern was nearly empty. After I poured the beverage for my Mom, I began to collect some for myself. That's when I noticed a woman awaiting behind me. I felt bad and I contemplated on whether to give her my tea after my cup had reached capacity. Then, I remembered that a man had accompanied her.
In my peculiar mentality, I thought, "What if he is her boyfriend? What if he is unreasonable and mistakes my offer as a flirtatious gesture?" So naturally, after the beverage reached the brim of my little styrofoam cup, I reluctantly walked away.
I hope that there was enough tea for her.
Shortly after, my Mom kindly asked if I could get her dessert. She stated that I could put it in one of the cups there, of which there were plenty, if there weren't any more bowls.
I walked again to the area and I laid my vision upon the buffet table ahead of me. There, a dessert bowl sat, no longer accompanied by others and ready to be filled. Noticing that no one else was going for it, I picked up that small round dish. After I turned around, I noticed that a lady glanced almost longingly at that now empty table. When I offered her the bowl, she looked at us, bowl and I, with confusion, disbelief, and kindness combined. She looked at her friends who displayed similar expressions at my offer. She didn't take the bowl and I tried to hide my embarrassment as I took two pieces of an ivory dessert. I wondered if there was a barrier of communication between her and I. I quickly travelled from the buffet to my Mom and I's designated table.
I returned yet again to the buffet so I too could partake in some dessert. I looked at the counter to my left and noticed that there were plenty of dessert bowls right there.
