Dear Mom,
It's been a little over 19 years and it's easy to say that you've been one outstanding mother. You truly deserve an award. Now I know almost every daughter will say this about their mother but maybe that's what makes it so special.
I was never the type to call you my best friend or dial your number the second after something exciting or dreadful happened in my life. We don't go on regular outings to lunch and coffee but we get each other and we are both independent.
You are my person, you know that.
When I'm sad or sick I crave your hugs and your smell and your skinny arms. When I'm feeling chatty or angry I want to be with you so I can talk your ear off while you try to follow along.
Dad tells me I have your smile, thank you for that.
Thank you for giving me that along with your thick hair and kind soul.
You are the most selfless person I know and every day I wish I had more of that.
You work hard and would sacrifice anything for your children, so thank you.
Thank you for being so understanding, accepting and letting each of us be who we are.
Thank you for saying yes when I asked you for all those favors and trusting me when I left the house.
Thank you for letting me be a teenager and allowing me to jump off the peer at the beach even when it scared you to death.
Thank you for giving me my space when I want it and checking up on me when I need it.
I know I've been away at school, and will be for the next few years but I miss you every day.
I'm sorry if I don't call you every week, or I forget to respond to your texts.
I'm sorry that when I'm home I spend more time with my friends than I do with you.
Just know I constantly think of the next time I'm going to see you.
I love to laugh with you and talk about life with you but mostly I love that you're my mom.
Happy Mothers Day.
XoXo
