Oh, college. The four-ish most free years of your life where you can kinda do just about whatever you want. You can choose what you want to do with your life, the time you want to go to class, when to eat, when to sleep, and what to wear. However, all of these decisions can be overwhelming and can harsh your vibes. Over the four years you are here, you realize how much you appreciate the little things in life. Here are some of the things that college kids appreciate a little more than others.

1. Home cooked meals.

Let me tell y'all something. There is nothing more invigorating than walking into your house and into the smell of your Mom's cooking. You know that in about 20-30 minutes, a nice warm plate of home cooked goodness will be literally right under your nose and, after prayer, blessing your taste buds.

2. Your parents.

After being away at college, you regret ever being rude to your parents because sometimes, you literally miss them so bad that it hurts. You realize all of the things that your parents did/do for you like: fill up your gas tank, grocery shop for you, make you every meal of the day, do your laundry, and help you out with literally every legal for you ever need done. One of the biggest lessons you learn when going away to school is learning to appreciate your parents even more than you already do.

3. Facetiming your pets.

Honestly, the best part of every Facetime call is when your little four-legged friend makes a guest appearance. Then, all you see is their little nose pop up and sniff the phone while you spastically call their name in a high pitched voice. Its a great time for all parties involved and the ultimate mood buster.

4. Getting packages.

When UPS or FedEx showed up at your house when you were a kid, you would get so pumped because you knew goodies were thoroughly secured inside, and waiting for you to spastically open the package. Ok, now take that feeling and multiply it by a thousand because that is exactly what it feels like to get a care-package from a loved one. And you know this package isn't your most recent online shopping necessity because you have the shipping notifications connected to your email and your number. So, that makes care-packages that much more exciting.

5. Naps.

Whoever can get through an entire adult day without napping deserves an award because it's so difficult. I feel that the more I grow up, the more I revert back to my younger years. For example, I cry for my Mom every time she, or I, leave one another, I have to carry snacks around with me because a hangry girl is a miserable girl, and finally, I have to take some sort of power-nap at some point in the day or I'm cranky. Point is, you are never too old to nap and I am definitely a hardcore advocate for naps.

6. Phone calls.

Fifteen year old me would be shook if she found out that college me preferred calling people over texting. But, it is so much easier to simply pick up the phone and just ask the person a question instead of sending around 100 texts to do the job of a 30 second phone call.

7. Getting an A.

It is one thing to just pass a test, but it is an entirely different thing to get an A on said test. Getting an A on a test or class that seemed near impossible is probably one of the greatest feelings in this world, and when you have to truly earn that grade due to lack of extra credit, it feels.. Well, like Dwight in this gif.

8. Free time.

Sometimes free time can be stressful because you don't know if you are forgetting something or if you truly just have nothing to do. Before college, I would pack every minute of my free time with things to do with all of my friends. Now-a-days, I get every blanket around, make a cave, and watch Fixer Upper on HGTV for 12 hours straight.

9. Free things.

There is literally nothing better than free things, especially when you are broke. Lets go over something really fast: after buying groceries, paying bills, and buying things for class that tuition doesn't cover, you are a little low on funds. So, when the school hosts the club fair, you go an collect all of the swag. You can go for an hour and leave with travel coffee cups, a year's supply of pens and pencils, planners, notebooks, pizza, coupons, and a drawstring bag to hold all of your free things. Basically, if there are free things being given out, you can guarantee I will be there.

10. Music playlists.

Music is nice all of the time, but when someone can put together really good playlists for your every mood, that is something truly special. There is nothing more annoying than going to do homework and not being able to find a steady stream of good music to work to, or when you go to the gym and you can't find that perfect workout playlist with constant beats. I never payed playlists too much attention, and now I change out my Spotify playlists about every 2 weeks.

These may seem like small things to you, but to me, these things are my little victories that make college a little less stressful. So, to all of the college kids, remember that it doesn't matter the size of the victory because a win's a win.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
