"My God."
Those were the two words that first came to me as soon as Donald Trump's speech ended the Republican National Convention. The entire four days were filled with controversy and undecided voters like myself came no closer to wanting to support Trump.
Even though I am a registered Democrat, this election has truly caused me to be undecided. Going into the convention, Trump spoke like a mad man. During the convention, Trump spoke like a mad man. The choice should seem simple, right? Wrong!
The Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton have made it almost impossible for people who enthusiastically supported Bernie Sanders to join the Clinton Camp.
The convention first seemed to go off of its rocker with a mother of one of the victims of the Benghazi attack went on the stage and said, "I personally blame Hillary Clinton for the death of my son." Those harsh words seemed to ignite the audience to begin "lock her up" chants.
The reason why this was an issue is because of the perceived manipulation of Trump. The mother is still mourning the death of her son so much that she began to cry on the stage. Even though it seemed like she connected with the delegates in the room, to undecided voters like myself Trump just looked like a bad guy.
Melania Trump's plagiarism scandal took the cake as worst mess up of the Republican National Convention that day. The speech was obviously plagiarized, but that wasn't the bigger issue. The big issue around this entire scandal was that the staffer who took responsibility for the "error" offered their resignation and Trump did not want the staffer to resign. Trump has consistently said that he is going to surround himself with the best people. If this is the one of Trump's "best people," we need to be scared.
Just when you think it couldn't get any worst, it did. The RNC has shown the public that political civility is dead. Never did I think that I would be witness to the delegates of one major political party chanting, "Lock her up" about the presumptive nominee of the other major political party. The reason why many young people are turned off about politics is that they don't see a way for compromise or civility.
However, the worst part of the RNC had to be Trump's speech. The speech seemed to state that in it's current form America is actually terrible. Between the wrong statistics and colorful language, the speech that Trump gave had to be one of the worst in Republican National Convention history.
If Trump wants to win over undecided voters like myself, he needs to start acting like a candidate and start answering the question: How?
