An Open Letter To The Children I Have Worked With

Love you little ones.

I never planned on working with you all. Working with children was not something I ever pictured myself doing, and yet it is all that I have been doing for the last few years and it is something that I want to do for a very long time. I absolutely love working with you all.

I have had some of the best times with you guys. You guys always know how to make my day, and I want to thank you for that. I know that it is my job to teach you and to help you grow, but you have taught me and helped me grow. You have taught me to not take everything too seriously, and to enjoy the smallest things, you have taught me how to read upside down so that way you could see the book as I was reading it to you, you have taught me responsibility.

Before I started working with you, I did not have much responsibility, but then I as put in charge of the lives of several 18 month olds, two year olds, three year olds, and four year olds. Talk about being responsible. I would not have said that I had much responsibility before working with you, or that I would have taken responsibility for my actions but because of you I have learned the importance of being responsible. You helped me grow up as I watched you grow up.

I love watching you grow before my eyes. I got to watch you learn to read, I got to help potty train you, I got to meet your families, and see you become older siblings. I got to see you all come out of your shells and come out of your comfort zone and make new friends. It feels amazing to have been a part of it.

As exhausting as it is working with you all, I would not trade it for the world. I would come home every night and need a nap before I would be able to do anything else. I would have the songs we would sing stuck in my head for hours on end. The stories that we would read several times a day are engrained into my memory to the point where I probably would not need the book in my hand to read "Fox in Sox" and that is saying something. Like I said, I would not trade working with you for the world.

I love you all and I hope that you always remember: inside voices, walking feet, wash your hands, and be nice to your friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
