An Appreciation Letter To My Best Friend

You are my rock, you are the Blair to my Serena, the Brooke to my Peyton, and the one person I know that will always be there, by my side, no matter what happens. Whether I did something wrong or not, you will always have my back. You can cheer me up faster than anyone I know. You know things about me no one else does. You let me raid your closet when you know I have clothes of my own I could be wearing. You have seen me at my worst and at my best. Even when my worst is throwing up and calling you at five in the morning. You still love me unconditionally, and I could not ask for someone better.

I only hope to be as great of a person as you are someday. You give the best advice. You tell me the truth even when it hurts, even if you do sugarcoat it. I know you are just trying to help me in the long run. Even when you are going through a rough time, I know you will put aside what you are feeling to make someone else feel better. You are always putting others first before yourself. You are selfless. You are absolutely beautiful from the inside out, whether you have eye shadow on or not. (She believes she can't leave the house without it because her “eyelids are ugly.")

Even though you weren’t physically with me during my latest break up, you were with me emotionally. You told me that everything would be okay and everything happens for a reason. You helped me all along the way. Everything does happen for a reason. There was a reason you were in my fall 2014 pledge class. There is a reason you have become my best friend. You came into my life to make me a better person. Whether you planned to do so or not, you have impacted my life. You have changed the way I look at things. You changed the way I handle things. You have made me a better person.

I can not thank you enough for being the best friend I was always meant to have. Thank you for always listening to me whine about things that don’t really matter. Thank you for going on awkward double dates with me. Thank you for letting me borrowing your Kendra's. Thank you for letting me crash at your apartment. Thank you for always being on my side, even when I wasn't right. Thank you for dragging me out when I was down. Thank you for always cheering me up. Thank you for being yourself.

Claire, I love you. Your mom would be absolutely proud of you and the amazing woman you have become.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
