ADHD might not seem like much to most people; especially if they don't have it. Since the age of about 8, I've always been extremely high-wired and outspoken. I got distracted easily and absolutely refused to sit still for more than ten minutes.
1. With time, I've learned how to control my actions and brain but here are a few things people with ADHD don't realize that we face each day....
2. This isn't something that I asked for but something that God thought I was capable of handling.
3. I have the attention span of a 10 year old waiting to go to recess. My brain is working 10000 MPH to accomplish my goals and stay on track at the same time.
4. I am aware that I can sidetrack myself easily but I remind myself that I can't let my ADHD control me.
5. I am extremely impulsive at times. I do things before thinking, I buy things without rationalizing, and I say things before realizing what I am saying.
6. I tend to work way too quickly in class because I'm ready to go onto new things.
7. If I don't seem interested, it's probably not that I'm "not interested," I just can't pay attention.
8. I get distracted by things that others usually wouldn't. And it progresses as time passes.
9. I don't mean to offend anyone by my lack of visible attention but I'm still there, I likely know what's going on lol
10. I've always been obnoxious, since I can remember. But I also know how to be serious.
11. When I'm on medication, I lose emotion and may even stop verbal communication with you and just listen.
12. It actually takes A LOT for me to be patient. By the time I start something, I'm ready to move onto the next thing.
13. If I make you feel awkward because of how jittery I am, don't worry, I feel just as awkward too because I can't stop it.
But most importantly.....
I am not my disorder, I am still me.
