1.) The infamous “How is college?” question.
Great. College is great. Besides when I am being fueled by nothing other than a triple-shot expresso coffee and ramen with no evidence of sleep, it’s great!
2.) “Do you have a job?”
If you can find anyone that would hire me with “able to clean an entire dorm room with a Clorox wipe.” on my resume…let me know!
3.) “What’s your major again?”
I am almost positive I tell you this every family gathering…should I wear a shirt with this information on it for you? Maybe write it on my forehead?
4.) “How are your classes? Any favorites?”
I can promise you that no college student gets up every morning and thinks “Gee, I can’t wait to get to my *insert any class here* today!” Some classes are so easy I feel like I'm being punkd. Some make me consider dropping out and selling myself on the streets. Nowhere in between.
5.) “Are you dating anyone?”
“Aw cmon, a girl/boy like you?! Single?! How could that be?!” I do not have time for a relationship that can be compared to a 4 credit class WITH a lab. These hoes ain’t loyal, grandma.
6.) “Are you getting involved?”
I am involved in Margarita Monday, Tequilla Tuesday, Wine Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, Fireball Friday, Svedka Saturday…still finding something to fill my Sunday opening I suppose. Any suggestions?
7.) “Were you drunk in those pictures on Facebook? Are you staying out of trouble?”
See listed activities above. Did someone ask who drank all the wine? Don’t look at me.
8.) “Who wants seconds?”
Chances are that I already got seconds without you asking first because I have been living off of pizza for the past several months.
But hey…despite you interrogating us every family gathering…we still love you to bits! But talking about adult things with adults is FREAKY. Just remember we are on break to escape the stresses of college for as long as we can. Let us shove our faces with the delicious food you have made. Give us time to be thankful and appreciative of our family and friends. Because even as 20 year olds, we are still in denial that we are growing up when we were just sitting at the kids table not too long ago.
