If your birthday is close to Christmas then you probably have some sort of opinion about it. People like myself love it simply because they love Christmas, but lots of others don't take too kindly to having their birthday overshadowed by the popular holiday. Although, no matter what your thoughts on it are, we can all share in our similar situations due to our birthday being so merry.

1. Literally, everyone forgets your birthday.

When I say everyone, I mean it. One year my parents actually completely forgot as well. The issue is that people are in such a rush to find that perfect gift, or they are still just in their holiday mood that they don't remember your birthday.

2. No one gets you two presents.

All your other friends and family members get two presents a year, but that just doesn't apply to you. You often have friends get you a present and say "here's your Birthmas present" to which you have to conjure up a nice reply.

3. You can ask for a bigger present.

One of the perks of a birthday around this time though is that you are able to ask for a bigger present when others can't. A new computer may seem like a lot for just a Christmas present but for your birthday and Christmas? Seems fairer. Live it up and go for the big present this year!

4. Not many people will show up if you try to do something for your birthday.

Lots of people tend to go out of town to spend time with their relatives around Christmas. This usually leaves you fairly lonely at your party (I once even invited my whole class to my party and one person showed). It can be upsetting when you're the only one celebrating your birthday, but that doesn't mean you can't still party it up.

5. All of your presents are wrapped in Christmas paper.

Let's be real here, you probably have never gotten a present that didn't have some sort of Christmas tree or "fa la la la la" quote on it. It's never surprising, but you can't help dreaming that you get a nice bag which actually says "Happy Birthday" someday.

6. Your birthday theme is always "Happy Holidays."

If you do actually try to plan a birthday gathering, you may as well make the theme Christmas because that's what your place is going to be ready for. I have learned to embrace this and make my birthday theme ugly Christmas sweaters every year so that at least I can have a good laugh!

7. You're probably going to get stuck doing something you don't want to do.

From visiting your third cousin once removed to going ice skating with the whole family, Christmas is all about being with loved ones. This means that your birthday is too, so get ready to do some family activities and don't be too sad if it overshadows your big day. You still get to be with family and that's awesome.

8. Christmas songs just remind you of your birthday.

Seriously, I thought that Feliz Navidad was my special birthday song until I was 7.

9. It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

No matter how much you complain about your birthday being overshadowed, you still get really happy when December rolls around. Hot chocolate, fireplaces, blankets, and cheer make your birthday that much better. You can't help but kind of love it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
