There's no place like home?

9 Reasons Going Home For Break Is The Worst
WOODUMS

College students tend to have a complicated relationship with going home. You get to see your mom and play with your dog but unless you're still close with your high school friends or have a lot of exciting things to do in your hometown, there are so many reasons why going home for break is the worst.

1. You leave something important at school

It doesn't matter how many packing lists you make, you will inevitably leave something of great importance behind at school and something even more important at home when you head back.

2. Everything closes at nine

Unless you are somehow lucky enough to live in a college town, you're probably used to nothing except Walmart being open after nine.

3. Your room isn't yours anymore

Maybe you're lucky enough that your mom has preserved your old room like a museum of your childhood, but for most of us we come home to a "guest room" full of storage boxes and rejected furniture.

4. Your parents treat you like a kid again

I don't know what it is, but when you step through the front door, parents automatically revert back to how treating you like you're in high school again. Curfew and chores are no longer a thing of the past and you're back to bargaining with your parents to stay out an extra hour.

5. You get judged for sleeping until noon

...and staying up till 4 in the morning. Sometimes we forget our sleep schedules aren't in accordance with how the rest of the world runs. College student's sleep schedules are rarely healthy and our parents love to point it out.

6. You see everyone from high school

It is a scientifically proven fact that any college student while at home for break will run into at least one ex, three teachers, and four random kids you graduated with while on a boredom-induced Target run.

7. You will have to answer a million questions

"How's school? Are you still dating that guy? What's your major?" Everyone you see will have at least 4-5 uncomfortable questions they will expect you to answer with eloquent answers of straight A's and plans for marriage.

8. You will miss your friends

You never really realize how much you miss your college friends till you're a million miles away from them and you can't just borrow their cute clothes or go on a sonic run anytime you want.

9. Home isn't home anymore

This is probably the saddest one of all but every college student knows what I'm talking about. There will be a time when you reference "home" as your college and realize home doesn't feel like home anymore. But the home you grew up in will always have a special place in your heart, and no matter how much you miss your college town.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
