It's safe to say that Halloween is a major event in college. Gone are the days where our mom's would pick out our costumes and we went house to house trick-or-treating. Now Halloween is filled with a weekend of partying and DIY costumes. Some take it more seriously than others. If you're anything like my friends and I, finding perfect costumes is both the best and worst part of Halloween. Creating cute costumes on a college student budget can be stressful, but becomes all worth it when you capture the perfect Instagram.

1. Let the Pinteresting begin

College girls everywhere turn to Pinterest for creative costume ideas, and it's safe to say Pinterest always comes through for us. Weeks of looking through different pins of Halloween costumes go on before making the final decision. We don't mind the easy DIY directions either that help us out on our college student budget.

2. Agreeing on a costume

In a group of girls, it can be hard for everyone to decide on one costume. With so many options, how can you choose just one? You only get one Halloweekend a year. The decision is bigger than it seems. Everybody has their favorites and getting everyone to agree on one group costume can be stressful.

3. New costume, who dis?

When creating a DIY outfit there's always the fear that nobody may know who you are. Going to a party and getting asked "What are you supposed to be?" can be annoying. The pressure is on to have a costume you won't have to explain.

4. The Freakout

After looking at a thousand costume ideas and not finding one that's original or good enough, comes the freakout. You start to worry freakout because Halloween is getting closer and you still don't have anything. You try to stay calm and hopeful, but on the inside, you're freaking out.

5. Spend vs. Save

There's always that one friend who wants to buy the store bought over-priced, over the top costume. Store bought costumes were envious in 9th grade, but no college student is willing to drop $50 on an overly sexy Alice in Wonderland costume. You consider it for a second, then reality hits and you realize you're broke, just like every other college student.

6. Finding an "appropriate" costume

The meaning of the word "appropriate" is definitely held to different standards during Halloween. You can get away with pretty much any outfit. Almost every girl looks for a costume with a little bit of sexy in it, and you and your friends won't be any different.

7. The "yourself" in DIY

DIY costumes are a cheap and easy fix for the college student. Although they require you actually doing it yourself, the simple directions will have you thinking you can win the next season of "Project Runway" in no time.

8. The Final Stage

Finally, the look is complete. You look and feel confident enough to take on any frat party that lies ahead of you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
