Age is nothing but a number.

In my own words I would say an old soul is a person who feels like they are 60 years old trapped in a young person’s body. More and more as I get older I realize how true it is that age is just a number. You could be 80 years old and be as spunky as a ten year old, or five years old and have wisdom greater than a philosopher. Old souls are a rare people group who look at life through a unique lenses. They march to the beat of their own drum and live like they have been on this planet for longer than their birth certificate claims.

1.You like to help and counsel others

Out of your friend group you are most likely the one to give advice and the shoulder to cry on. It comes more naturally for you to put yourself in other people’s shoes and empathize with them.

2. You are good at judging people’s character right off the bat.

The saying goes “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” For an old soul this would be an example of an exception to the rule. When and old soul says, “That boy is bad news,” just believe her/him. This doesn’t give old souls permission to judge people before getting to know them but they do have a very good sense of who a person is.

3. You have a hard time obeying authority

This example may apply more to children who are old souls. Growing up as an old soul it can be very challenging to take authority from an adult. In the child’s mind they feel similar to an adult. When an adult not only treats them like a child (which they feel they are not). But speaks down to them the child usually won’t feel inclined to listen.

4. Some of your most treasured relationships have always been with adults

As an old soul any adult that was able to understand you and take an interest in you held a special place in your heart. These adults made us feel normal, loved and respected.

5. You were a loner

This example again applies a bit more to children with old souls. Old souls remain old regardless of age. They start to blend in a little more with society as they age. Children however stick out like sore thumbs because their peers notice they are different and it makes it difficult for them to find their place. This usually means they spend most of their time alone or they make friends with the adults or people older than them. Their friend groups are small and when they find someone who understands them they hang on for dear life.

6. It’s hard to act your age

As an old soul you always wished you could just act and be like the other kids but no matter how much you willed yourself you couldn’t. You may have tried to pretend to be like the people of your age group but you knew if felt awkward and foreign. Old souls hate to conform and know that being authentic is one of the most important things in life.

7. People judge your knowledge and wisdom based on your age

This is something all old souls are quite familiar with. No matter what age the old soul is they always feel as though they have something important and relevant to contribute. However, sometimes people can be judgmental and dismiss what an old soul has to say because of their age.

8. You are very nurturing and feel responsible to take care of others

You often find yourself surrounded by children and can’t help but feel like they all need your love and attention. Maybe you are usually called mom of the group because you are the most responsible. Either way you didn’t choose this life but you can’t help but give into the way you are. Being an old soul can be a lonely and misunderstanding life to live. At the end of the day you are happy for the wisdom and love you have.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
