Summer is finally here: the smell of the ocean; sandy toes and salty hair; hot, sunny days with warm summer nights; and my personal favorite, the smell of barbeque in the backyard.
I look forward to these three glorious months all year (Why do you think I go to school in Florida?), but many people view this season with trepidation. While the warmer temperatures invite us to be outdoors soaking up the sun, they simultaneously encourage us to shed our layers, exposing more of ourselves to one another. This is where the “summer bod” phenomena comes in; as the weather gets warmer and beaches start preparing for the crowds, we feel that instinctual pressure to be “bikini ready." But is the perfect beach bod really the key to a great summer? Here are a few reasons why the “summer bod” is completely overrated.
1. You're too late anyways.
It's already June; do yourself a favor and quit while you're ahead.
2. Instagram is a lie.There's nothing real about those perfectly manipulated and filtered bikini bods that we call "goals."
3. Cleanses are a joke.
You'll just end up "hangry."
4. The summer bod comes and goes, but pizza is forever.
Consistency is key.
5. It may be 90 degrees, but I'm still wearing sweatpants.
"Groutfits" are a girl's best friend.
6. You'll never see those people at the beach again.
You do you, girl.
7. Everything tastes better than skinny feels.
Everything.
8. Don't change your looks; change your lifestyle.
Why would you want to look your best for only three months out of the year?
