Coming from a fellow procrastinator with a violent fear of failure, it's always been difficult for me to even consider starting my summer assignments. As a matter of fact, I have yet to start mine this summer, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a plan! With three AP classes worth of summer work to do in a little less than two months, I need to get cracking and so does everybody else! Here are a few methods I'm about to put to use to successfully complete my summer work that the everyday student can use as well!
1. Go To A Silent Place
Whether it's your local Starbucks, the Library or even your neighborhood pool, silence is key when actually retaining the information you're studying! Just go to a silent place with somewhat of an idea of what you're going to do and get it done!
2. Make A Detailed Schedule
Speaking personally, I'm always more organized when I've laid out a study plan of timing, what I'm going to study, how much I'm going to get done, and when I do it! Try setting up an event on your phone calendar! It will help you actually get to work instead of convincing yourself to skip out!
3. Get Pretty School Supplies
Can you only do your work efficiently if you have the most expensive fountain pen at Staples? Get that fountain pen then! If you spend fifty dollars on beautiful looking and feeling school supplies at Office Max, you'll be eager to put them to good use and get your work done!
4. Start Off With The Subject You're Most Bored With
There's always one class you're dreading, so get that done first! By starting with you're future least favorite class and ending with what you're passionate about it'll go by quickly! Also, by the time you would normally be burned out on summer work, you'll be caught up annotating a book you just can't get enough of, or solving a calculus problem that's a breeze for you!
5. Make A Study Group!
It's never too early to have a squad meet up a Starbucks and get down to business on summer work! It's a great way to see your friends during the summer and get stuff done at the same time! It'll make it harder to back out of study plans when you have friends relying on you too!
6. Do A Little Each Day
Don't stress during the last week of summer by saving all of your work for then! Try to start off with doing, at most, an hour of summer work a day! This will prevent you from getting burned out too early and you'll still have plenty of time to make the most out of your summer!
7. Caffeine
With a little bit of coffee or tea, anything is possible! Whether it's from your Keurig at home or the espresso machine at your local coffee shop, anything helps! Caffeine can give you that little extra boost that we all need to jumpstart our day and get our work done!
