Just a few days ago I moved into a house with five of my friends near San Diego State's campus. It feels so amazing to finally have our own house after being stuck living in a dorm situation for the last two years (first at a college in Canada & then at state here). We got lucky with our house because it has a huge backyard with a fire pit, small pool and outdoor bar area. Regardless of what your house is like, there a few things you need to make your experience in it the best it can possibly be.
1. Cleaning supplies. This is one of the most necessary things to have in any house, especially when you're living with a bunch of college students. It is also extremely important to always clean up after yourself in the kitchen or wherever in order to keep the house in good condition.
2. Tapestries. A good way to add flare to the house is to buy a bunch of tapestries that match each other in style. You can put them in bedrooms, living rooms or even the main area of the house, and that will also help cover up all of the bare walls.
3. Everything you need for the kitchen. When moving into your own house it's important to remember how much is actually required for the kitchen. You need all utensils, proper knives, plates, bowls, glasses, a blender, a toaster, and a microwave (if there isn't one already). You also need to have tons of trash bags and assign people to take out the trash so it's not sitting around. I've found that in most situations, making a chore chart is very helpful when delegating household chores.
4. Lamps. A lot of the time in college houses, the lighting isn't that good so it always helps to have extra lamps around that creates a better lighting situation. You should have some in the bedrooms and in the living room as well. It's not really necessary to have them in the kitchen, though, unless you really have no light.
5. An outdoor table for pre-games. You don't want to get your dining room table all dirty every time you have a pre-game or people over, so it is necessary to have a beer pong or beer die table outside to use for those occasions.
6. Blankets. It's good to keep blankets in the living room for when everyone is watching a movie on the couches, or if someone sleeps on the couch and needs an extra blanket.
7. Proper Wi-Fi. This is one of the most important things. It sucks so much if the WiFi cuts out in your house in the middle of doing an assignment or something for work. Using your laptop for anything would practically be impossible without proper Wi-Fi.
