I am an old soul and 80's movies have a very special place in my heart. If you have a good taste in films or just want to feel some nostalgia, I highly recommend watching these:
1. "Mystic Pizza" (1988)
"Mystic Pizza" is a personal favorite, which is why it's number one! Queen Julia Roberts makes any movie worth watching. It's a cheesy (pun intended) chick flick about cute boys and pizza. It honestly doesn't get much better than that. Fun fact: Mystic is a real town in Connecticut and is home to the actual Mystic Pizza restaurant!
2. "Better Off Dead" (1985)
John Cusack was a complete stud back in the day, especially in "Better Off Dead." Cusack plays a teenage boy named Lane who's world is in shambles. It's extremely comical to see him try to get his life back on track, attempt the brutal K-12 slope, and drag race all while a budding romance begins with his neighbor's french foreign exchange student. Also, cheeseburgers come to life which is the most important reason to see it.
3. "Mannequin" (1987)
Before Kim Cattrall was playing the scandalous Samantha on "Sex and the City" she just so happened to be in one of the cutest 80's movies of all time along with Andrew McCarthy. For all the 90's babies out there this is kind of like "Life Size," only better. Switcher creates Emmy as a mannequin but she comes to life and he is the only one who can see her as a human which obviously makes their relationship tricky. It's a really funny movie with a perfect ending.
4. "The Breakfast Club" (1985)
Obviously. If you've never seen "The Breakfast Club" stop reading this and watch it right now. "The Breakfast Club" is an absolute classic movie that everyone should watch at least once. The cast is fantastic and John Hughes is simply a cinematic genius. It's so perfectly simple yet deep at the same time. Everyone can relate to this movie at some point in their life.
5. "St. Elmo's Fire" (1985)
I almost love this cast as much as I love "The Breakfast Club" cast, which makes sense because half of them are in it! Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham are basically the grown up "Breakfast Club" gang. This movie shows the ups and downs of friendship, relationships, and life in general. It's really cool to see some of today's hot celebs back in the day in movies like this.
6. "Sixteen Candles" (1984)
Jake Ryan is one hundred percent boyfriend goals. "Sixteen Candles" is another John Hughes classic film that, in my opinion, everyone should see at some point in their life. Sam's life is a joke from the start, which I'm sure many people can relate to. However, she gets her happily ever after in the best possible way. Who isn't at least a little intrigued to watch a movie with a character named Long Duck Dong?
7. "Weird Science" (1985)
This is probably one of the funniest 80's movies in my opinion. Anthony Michael Hall's drunk voice is the greatest thing ever. I'm sure every teenage boy fantasizes about creating their dream girl and these two actually did it. This movie is packed with awkward and hilarious moments. Not to mention a very young Robert Downey Jr.
There are so many gems that have come out of the 80's and hopefully you've either seen a few of my favorites or I have enticed you enough to check them out!
