The written word is so very special to me. Reading can take you to a different place, time period, or lifestyle and also teach you many lessons to carry with you throughout your life. As a member of a group called Page Turners by BuzzFeed, I have come in contact with many people who feel as I do about books. I asked this group some of the novels that have taught them a lesson that has stuck with them. I received many responses, but these seven stuck out to me.

1. "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio

This book taught my group and me how important it is to accept people for who they are on the inside and not just for what they look like.

2. "Hunger" by Roxane Gay

This memoir taught my group some important things about body image. It also taught us how important it is to take care of yourself.

3. "When Breath Becomes Air" by Paul Kalanithi"

The lesson this taught us was that you can try go through life hiding from pain and suffering, but it won't work. You must learn to process and deal with it in a healthy way and grow from it.

4. "Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini

This book had a strong message and was very relevant to our society today. It showed that judging immigrants or people living outside the United States is wrong. It also had a wonderful friendship between the characters that was heartwarming.

5. "God Is The Pancakes" by Robin Epstein

This young adult novel taught us that running away from your problems isn't a permanent solution. It also shows that doing the right thing isn't always easy, but it's still the right thing to do.

6. "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton

This classic young adult novel has stood the test of time and for good reason. It shows how friends become family and those that are there for you during hard times are there to stay.

7. "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint - Exupery

Last but not least, this sensational children's book changed our lives. Among the many great things about it, "The Little Prince" shows how even as we grow up, always find time to play. We must never take ourselves too seriously and nourish our imagination.

There are so many books in this world that can teach you something. These 7 have special places in my heart and I hope they can inspire you like they have inspired me. Enjoy reading!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
