Happy new year! I think we can all agree 2016 has been rough. I know a lot of people are glad to leave behind the stress and regrets that 2016 held for many of us. So instead of writing some resolutions for 2017 that we all know will never be fulfilled, here's to focusing on what I've learned. In loving memory of 2016, here are some things I'd like to leave behind.
1. Caring about what everyone else thinks
Focusing on what everyone could be thinking is draining and distracting. I can't control how people feel and think about me so why let it affect me?
2. Financial irresponsibility![]()
I love an occasional splurge on a pair of shoes or a ridiculously expensive cup of coffee, but when those splurges become consistent it's become clear that some financial discipline might be necessary (Mom and dad, please send money).
3. Regrets
In the wise words of Adele, "regrets and mistakes, they're memories made." Whatever happened, happened. Time to learn from it and let it go.
5. Pressure to be in a relationship
Simple.
5. Holding Myself Back![]()
So what if I fail? So what if I fall on my face in front of everyone? One of the best lessons I learned is I am capable of so much more than I thought. I'd rather genuinely fail than fail because I didn't try.
6. Judgement of others
If I had to pick one thing I learned this past year, it's that judging others only hurts you and isolates you from people that are really awesome. I don't know what other people are going through or where they've been. Life is so much better when we start giving people the benefit of the doubt and allow them to prove to us who they are instead of making snap judgements.
Here's to a new start and an amazing year!
