So you (barely) survived your first year of college. Maybe it was extravagant and maybe it was not, but I can surely tell you this: your sophomore year will be even better. Even though sophomore year is the one recognized as "the funk," due to the final declaration of one's studies, internship hunting, job hunting, etc., I have come up with some reasons of how it will not be.
1. No more freshman orientation
Most schools welcome their freshmen with fun activities, but some welcome them with days' worth of boring seminars and informative activities. Either way, we do not have to go through any part of that anymore. We also don't have to take part in any form of ice-breakers either. I am happiest about that considering I ran out of fun facts about myself.
2. You actually have friends
A second year at school means more time to spend with the friends you made your freshman year (woohoo). The awkwardness of first encounters is slowly coming to a close, so you can relax a little!
3. You know the best places to go to (on and off campus)
The best part about sophomore year is the fact that you are not going in blind anymore. You already know the best places to hang out and the best places to grab food that does not make you gag.
4. Better (and hopefully less stressful) time management
Oh, the pounds of work and the ridiculous expectations of having to finish it in time along with having a social life...hopefully your first time through gave you the knowledge of how to make this work (somehow).
5. New opportunities
Didn't do something you wanted to last year? Too scared or didn't have enough time? Sophomore year can provide you with bigger and better things. It can be your second chance to audition for a play, join a club, or meet more with your teachers. New chance to redo your dorm room, a new roommate, etc. Oh, and you also aren't stuck in your freshman dorm that did not have AC.
6. A chance to dig deep into what you love
Sophomore year will be important for self-reflection. You are no longer a freshman follower. You will have even more freedom than the year before and also the chance to really find yourself. You will learn so much, inside and outside the classroom. There will not be too much holding back. There will only be things that will lead you more to what you love -- good friends, classes that you actually like and a school you would be lost without.
