6 Tips To Help Prepare For The Renaissance Fair
12 Things We Love About Renaissance Faire

Everyone knows that the Renaissance was one of the most important eras in history. What took place between the 14th century and the 17th century, the Renaissance, was also a rebirth of cultural values such as art, literature, math and sciences. The Renaissance was an important era in our history because it was a rebirth, a renewal and a rediscovery.

The Renaissance Fair takes place every year in Tuxedo Park, New York. It's a fun event to play to some 16th-century games, listen to music and enjoy rides, arts, crafts, food and dance. People show up dressed like people in the Renaissance and it's a really fun time as long as you go prepared. What should you bring? What should you wear?

When thinking about what costume to wear, you could either do one of two things; you could make your own costume and save a couple bucks, or you could do it the easy way and just buy a costume online. Even though when you buy costumes during Halloween time, they're usually made with a thin fabric, and Renaissance attire will be hot and sticky. People during the Renaissance wore a lot of layers and everyone was very covered, that's why I advise you to make your own costume. You'll save a lot, you won't be as hot, plus corsets and dresses and doublets and pants are very uncomfortably hot. Also, it's okay to dress up as someone from "Game of Thrones" or some other 16th century-based show.

Make sure to stay hydrated! I know the food might seem a bit more tempting, but staying hydrated so you don't pass out and miss all the fun is way more important!

What to bring: Water, tissues (for allergies), money and make sure you wear comfortable shoes! I cannot stress how important it is to bring all of these things! Most stores will accept credit and debit cards but to be safe you want to bring some cash. Also if you come across some street performers and you really liked it, throw a dollar in their hat or case! To wear comfortable shoes is important also because it's not really fun to walk around in pain all day. Also, with how the women dressed during the Renaissance, nobody will see nor care what shoes you're wearing. If you're worried about the bag you bring clashing with your outfit, either stuff everything in your bra (which is really uncomfortable) or just buy a cheap little saddle bag at a thrift store.

Everything at the shops at the Renaissance Fair can range from $1- a couple hundred dollars, maybe even higher, so it might be a good idea to budget yourself. It's hard to keep track when you're caught in the medieval scenery and all of a sudden everything you see is just for memorabilia; memorabilia can also be a key chain. Everything is Medieval but it certainly isn't medieval pricing! Remember that tomorrow you'll be that much money short in the real world.

If you're going in a group, it would be good to either have a buddy system or plan out a certain time you'll meet at a certain shop. Also if you go to the bathroom or want to look at something, please have your friend hold your bag so you don't forget it. Tuxedo park is also very spotty when it comes to cell phone signal, so it's better to be prepared for the worst than to not be prepared at all. I've got my eyes on you!

Last but not least, have fun! The Renaissance Fair is a great event to attend! Don't forget to be safe though!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
