If your last week or month or year has been tough, this article is for you. If you’ve been stressed or worried or unhappy, this article is for you. We’ve all been there. We’ve all been through rough patches in our lives, and while no one’s rough patches look exactly like someone else’s, we all know pain and unhappiness.

But today I don’t want to dwell on the bad in life. Today, I think it’s time to remember the good. Even when stress, worry, unhappiness, and pain invade our lives, there’s still good. So if you’ve been having a rough time, here is a list of good things to remind you that life is still good.

1. Puppies.

Even if dogs aren’t your thing, you can’t deny that puppies are cute little bundles of heavenly happiness. They’re silly and clumsy and adorable. What’s not to love about that?

2. Cupcakes.

Someone, somewhere, once thought that cake would be even better if it was served in small cup-shaped quantities. Bless them. Bless cupcakes. You can eat like three or four of them and not even feel bad because they’re just small. Also, they’re cupcakes. You can get them in pretty much any flavor. It’s incredible.

3. Warm blankets and a good book or captivating movie.

Picture this: you, cuddled up in a cozy blanket, soft lighting, and a solid adventure book or movie. Sounds great to me. A good story can heal your soul, so when the unhappiness comes, find a good story.

4. Music.

What did we do to deserve the musicians that play for us? There’s something for everyone out there, and everyone can find something that makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Whether you like movie soundtracks, pop, rap, jazz, hip hop, country, alternative, or something else, there’s music for you. It can save your life and it can give you meaning. Wonderful.

5. Art.

Now you may not think that you are an art fanatic, and you may not feel joy when walking through an art museum. There are all kinds of art though, and it’s a gift to the world. It can help us see things more clearly, and it can also make things more complicated. It can unsettle us, but it can also give us peace. Art is for anyone with a soul in need of some hope.

6. A good warm drink.

Tea, coffee, cider, hot chocolate. It’s up to you, but a warm beverage is sure to lift your spirits. It’s comforting and warm, and a mug of a hot drink will practically hug you back.

So if the rough patch you’re in is a continuing mess, keep these things in mind. Cuddle a puppy. Drink a warm beverage and curl up with a blanket and a good story. Listen to your favorite music and look at something beautiful. The world is still good and glorious and full of wonderful things that will come your way. The bad times won’t last forever, and good times are just around the corner.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
