5 Things To Do When You Have Nothing To Do On Spring Break

Sometimes Doing Nothing Is The Best Thing

5 Things To Do When You Have Nothing To Do On Spring Break

So it’s spring break and you have nothing planned? You’re not the only one. When it comes down to it, sometimes just relaxing and catching up on some much needed sleep is the best thing. Although there will be times you will be bored out of your mind.

Here’s what to do when that happens:

1. Sleep? Did You Say Sleep? Yeah That’s Something I Need.

Sleep is something that everyone is lacking on. You always want to stay up late and push your limits in order to finish that last page of a paper due at midnight. Not to mention sleep is just something that likes to escape us. Between our night owl phases and our sleepless nights thinking about life, the zzz’s surely do disappear. Now would be the best time in order to catch up on those.

2. Binge on Netflix 24/7

I mean us college students already do this enough, but now we don’t have to stressfully watch one episode after another while thinking of the homework we should be doing. Now we don’t have to feel guilty about watching Netflix. Not to mention, if you’re anything like me, you have a list of so many different series and movies saved to your list that you want to watch and have never gotten the chance to get through them. Be right back… I need to finish this last episode.

3. Read Books… Wait… Read? That’s a Thing?

Yes, that’s an actual thing. Now instead of “reading” (or not) those textbooks we are supposed to, we can indulge in a little entertainment. Pick up a book you’ve been meaning to read or go outside and sit under a tree and enjoy yourself for once. Let yourself get lost in the book. It’s quite easy to do. It’s like watching t.v. in your head.

4. Take a Road Trip

I don’t mean planning out an entire trip. No, I mean getting in your car, get a full tank of gas, and just go. Make a game out of it and only take right or left turns. Travel only back roads. See some new places. Get lost. See where the roads will take you and remember to take plenty of pictures on the way.

5. Staring at the Ceiling is Always an Option

You’d be surprised at how entertaining a ceiling can be. When it’s your last option and you just can’t come up with anything else to do, sit and think. Trace the lines in the ceiling and let your thoughts flow. You’re sure to come up with some entertaining questions that could occupy your wandering mind for hours. Especially if they’re about the ‘what ifs’ and the meaning of life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
