5 Things We Don't Tell Ourselves Enough

Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain. To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices - today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.

You are an incredible person, whether you have dealt with tough times or you feel like life has got you wrapped up and stressed out daily. Everyday I wake up with a schedule, a worry, or sometimes even a task that has to be done that day. We push ourselves to be successful to reach some end goal that will eventually lead in landing a good job, having a great deal of money, or reaching some peak of happiness. But quite often what we don't remind ourselves of is how important we are mentally and physically. Do you wake up every day and feel happy with the body that you are living in? This isn't meant to be cliche, but you must love what you were given. Every day you should wake up and remind yourself:

1. You are only human.

Remind yourself that you're capable of so much. Never forget that you are meant to do something in this world. Don't stress your body out and keep a clear and conscious mind.

2. You should love yourself first.

Before entering any healthy relationship, whether it be a friendship or romantic relationship, you must know who you are and what you stand for. You can't love others without loving yourself first.

3. Each day is a brand new day.

Yesterday was one day in thousands you have yet to live. If something has knocked you down, collect yourself and start over again. Whether it be big or small, every small step can make you mentally and emotionally stronger.

4. Take a deep breath.

In our fast paced world, we often forget to stop and take a breath once in awhile. We are so focused on such minuscule things in life that we get wrapped up in a world that stresses us out.

5. Be the best version of yourself.

This is the most important part. You may not like the skin you wear, your hair, your body shape. You can change it however you please because that is the beauty of expressing yourself. But what is inside yourself must be used to its full potential because we need more people to make this world a better place.

Each day is a new canvas and the way it is painted is 100% up to you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
