I go to college out of state. Basically this means that I am not a resident of the state that I am going to school. Yesterday I was contemplating what irks me and getting annoying questions as to why I go out - of - state for college seemed to come to my mind immediately. I figure this is a short list of 5 things that shouldn't be said or asked to an out - of - state student.
1. You must not get along with your parents.
I do get a along with my parents. I text my mom constantly throughout the day.
2. Isn't it cheaper to stay at home?
In my case it isn't. Its cheaper for me to go out - of - state and live on campus than it is to go to a school in my state. If I did just want to stay at home, then yeah it would be cheaper, but not necessarily worth it. I want my independence!
3. *Specific for freshman* Wouldn't it be better if you were at home taking your general courses?
Sometimes class credits that you take don't automatically go over to the new school. Sometimes people have to retake classes because of this fact.
4. You must be rich if you can afford to go out of state.
Nope. I'm gonna be in debt after graduation. I've got loans. There are scholarship opportunities and work study jobs too.
5. You must get home sick a lot.
I do get homesick occasionally, but not a whole lot. I try to busy myself with school work and a social life. I'm fortunate enough to have a mother who is willing to come visit me on the weekends. Also I've got family nearby, so if I do get homesick, I can just visit them.
