5 Reasons Why Valentine's Day Is Overrated
Cuddles and Rage

It's that time of year again. The cold months are in full swing, and February marks the second month of 2016. Besides President's Day and the possibilities of spring break, what else is there to consider?

Valentine's Day: the day of romance and true love.

For those of us who celebrate Valentine's Day, it can be quite a stressful time. Showing your affection to a loved one on such a momentous day is definitely a bit of a burden. Even if you don't celebrate it on an annual basis, it's a day where lonely people are left grieving over there independent nature.

Here are a few things to consider this Valentine's Day, since it definitely is an unnecessary holiday.

1. The price of your gift has tripled around the holiday.

Remember when you wanted to get your girlfriend that bushel of roses? Guess what? They're upwards of $60!

2. If you don't celebrate it, you aren't a good boyfriend/girlfriend.

The pressure is on for most of us to actually start pushing materialistic values onto our significant other. Most of the time, if we disregard the loveliness of Valentine's Day, we're left with a resentful partner who may not want to spoon with you later in the night.

3. If you decide to stay single, you're a walking cliché.

Valentine's brews with the boys? Dinner at your favorite restaurant with the girls? Both of these ideas have been stereotyped to the nth degree by popular culture. Unless you want to be irrationally judged by your waiter, it's probably best to stay indoors today.

4. Nobody wants to start a relationship during the month of February!

You've just run into somebody who you think is really cute. However, Valentine's Day is just a few days away, and you're left wondering whether or not you should text them to meet up for dinner or coffee. The endless purgatory that is February seems to be ruining your prospects for finding that special someone.

5. Every day should be Valentine's Day.

Even if you aren't looking for love this year, it's important to recognize how much love is embedded in your everyday life. Whether it's your best friend or your mom, companionship is right around the corner. Be on the lookout!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
