Nothing is worse than getting sick during the school year. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone because from experience, I've gotten sick so many times that it started to affect my grades and my attitude. Overall, it just wasn't good. Here's the top five reasons why I hate getting sick during the school year.
1.Most professors don't care and don't notice.
Professors have so many students at once that they're hardly going to bat an eye if the student in row AB, Seat 87 is missing. Unless you sit in the first row every single class, they're not going to notice. They also don't really care. The first day, they make it a statement that it is your responsibility to get the notes. Most of the time, you have to rely what's online or if you have a friend in the class. An email to the the professor will guarantee an eye roll through the computer screen because literally they're that mean. They have no sympathy if you're on your dying death bed.
2. iClickers and/or participation are a part of your grade.
The fact that I have to get up and go to class when I'm feeling like death is beyond me. Especially when I have to go for only a few minutes to do some iClickers questions to get my points in for the day. If you know anything about college, it's that every point counts and can determine your grade at the end of the semester. Those few points are seriously so annoying and a complete waste of my time.
3. You're useless.
When I'm sick, I'm super tired and groggy. I don't feel like doing anything. So everything just piles up and again no one cares, so I still have to meet all the deadlines and such. No extensions whatsoever. Therefore, you'll get my worst work that week.
4.You miss what college has to offer.
So many activities go on every single day. I can't even count how many social and active activities I've missed throughout my two years in school just from being sick. I want to explore the college. I want to have fun in college, but I can't do that if my immune system decides to fail. Then you're left watching your friends go out and having fun because you don't have the energy to be a part of it.
5.Your Mom isn't there to nurse you back to health.
Like anyone, I become a big baby when I'm sick. I'm super needy and whiny because I'm a mess. On top of being a mess, I have to be an "adult" and go get medicine for myself. If I want soup, if I have to make it or go get it myself. Here's where needing your Mom is totally acceptable, but she can't just travel a hundred miles just to come cater to my needs. A phone call is the only thing I can get and although she's not with me in in person, I know she is in heart.
I'm going to pray that I don't get sick this coming school year. Fingers crossed. An apple a day keeps the doctor away right?
