From witch communities, haunted churches, and the just plain creepy, Knoxville and the surrounding areas are a great place to be during Halloween. There are plenty of spooky places to visit if you live in the area or if you’re just visiting. Some are pretty widely known and have even been mentioned on the Discovery Channel, while others are smaller and might be lingering where you’d least expect.

1. Seven Islands Church.

Seven Islands is one of the oldest churches in the Knox County. It’s creepy and definitely haunted. Some people say they see lights coming from the bell tower if you look closely enough, and there are floating lights that hover over grave sites. I’ve been here in the middle of the night and seen very unfriendly faces peeking back at me from inside the church, when there definitely wasn’t anyone there.

2. Wheatlands Plantation.

In Seymour, Tennessee, there’s a plantation sitting off of Boyd’s Creek. There have been over seventy deaths in this house, not to mention there were Civil War battles fought on those grounds. In the yard behind the house, over 60 lives are buried in a mass grave. If any place is creeping with paranormal activity, it’s this place.

3. University of Tennessee.

U.T. is known to be one of the most haunted universities in the country. “The Hill” is supposed to be home to a vicious barghest (there are different opinions of what this creature could be; feline or canine). These are supposed to be death omens. Hess Hall is another haunted place, where blood curdling screams can be heard from a girl who supposedly committed suicide in the 70s. There’s also Sophie, who haunts Strong Hall, and is said to appear every year on her birthday in the lobby mirror.

4. Bijou Theatre.

This theatre is the fourth-oldest building in Knoxville. During the Civil War, it served as a hospital and became the Lamar Hospital. Because of this, most ghosts that haunt this Bijou are Civil War soldiers. One of the most famous, however, is William Sanders.

5. Mysterious Mansion.

This home is in Gatlinburg but it’s worth the trip. There’s apparently a small girl who fell from a balcony and you can see her standing on the ground below, pointing to the place where she fell. There also have been reports of a hooded figure that follows tour groups around as they are viewing the creepy mansion.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
